2019 Kick Off

Why Wealth Matters: The Women's Wealth Gap and the National Effort to Close It

When it comes to women and money, most of us know one shocking statistic: for every dollar a man is paid in this country, a woman earns 79 cents. This gap is stark, but it pales in comparison to the gap between what men and women own, particularly women of color. Our wealth - what we own - provides a sturdy foundation on which to build our lives. Without this foundation, we are on shaky ground. Sherry Riva, Founder and Executive Director of Compass Working Capital - a Womenade Boston grantee - explains how Compass is advancing its work to support women with low incomes to build wealth. Sherry will also shares her perspectives on the growing national movement to close the gender and racial wealth gaps and what we can do to move the needle for women in our community.
