Re-thinking the Bang for your Buck: How to tell an organization is worth your investment

Featured Presenter: Yolanda Coentro, President & Chief Executive Officer, Institute for Nonprofit Practice

For years, donors have struggled with how to select organizations to receive their precious charitable donations. With so many organizations asking for funds, how can we make a choice? We've learned that use of certain statistics - like "overhead" costs, or percentage of budget spent on salaries - is misguided and often leads to giving decisions that in fact limit impact and stifle social change rather than accelerate it. So how should we be thinking about maximizing the bang for our buck by supporting organizations with the structure, leadership and mission to make a difference? From her experience researching best practices and training and supporting nonprofit leaders, Yolanda helps us unpack and understand true indicators of organizational health and potential for program impact.
