Womenade Boston Grant Making Guidelines

Womenade Boston is dedicated to philanthropic efforts that raise awareness and funds for programs that positively impact the lives of women and teen girls in the greater Boston area. “The greater Boston area” is defined as municipalities from Boston out to the I-495 corridor.

Applicants must be able to show evidence that their mission is focused on serving this geography and that the majority of their service is delivered within this geography.

Womenade Boston is interested in helping to support promising, new ideas for impacting the lives of women and teen girls. We are interested in finding and funding well-designed, effectively managed programs that may have escaped the notice of larger funders and/or are bringing a new solution to the sector.  We are particularly interested in organizations or programs within organizations that are piloting new initiatives based on their experience and research around promising practice and have developed new or different interventions.

We will update our 2018 grant guidelines and open up the application process in the fall of 2017. Please check back for more information then.

In 2017, Womenade Boston made grants in 2 categories:

1) Providing support to organizations in the greater Boston area that empower teen girls – ages 12-21.

We seek to support organizations and/or programs within organizations that address the needs of girls who might be economically disadvantaged, socially at risk, or without the mentors or role models they need to thrive. We are interested in supporting organizations or programs within organizations that work to change the personal outlook for the teen girls they work with by helping them to understand the realm of life-opportunities available to them and then motivating and working with them to develop the skill, knowledge-base and self-esteem to achieve their goals and live fulfilling lives in their communities.

2) Providing support to organizations in the greater Boston area that empower women – ages 22 and older.

We seek to support organizations and/or programs within organizations that address the needs of adult women who might be economically disadvantaged, socially at risk, or without the social supports they need to thrive. These may include but are not limited to women veterans, women coming out of prison, and women who have been subject to exploitation. We are interested in supporting organizations or programs within organizations that work to change the personal outlook for these women by helping them to identify and prepare for personal and job opportunities available to them, and then motivating and working with them to develop the skill, knowledge-base and self-esteem to achieve their goals and live fulfilling, self-sufficient lives in their communities.

In 2017, Womenade made 5 grant awards of totaling $102,500.

Applicants must specify the focus area in which they are seeking funds, and propose a program or project commensurate with the size our our grants.
